In the Membrane Protein Biology Group at ICGEB, New Delhi campus, we aim to understand a few biological processes and translate them for anti-cancer and anti-atherosclerosis therapy using target structure-based drug discovery. Our research focus is on 1) Dimorphic and bifunctional Dehydroascorbate reductases (DHARs)-cum-Chloride Intracellular Channels (CLICs) that recycle Vitamin-C as soluble enzymes and act as ion channels while membrane inserted, which are differentially expressed in various cancers, 2) Oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) receptor LOX1, responsible for atherosclerosis resulting in cardio- and cerebrovascular diseases, 3) Understanding the molecular basis of how traditional Indian medicine used for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular therapies works using modern biological tools.
