Career Trajectory
Bio
Ahmet Ali Yanik is an Assist. Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC). His current research focuses on point-of-care biosensors and isolation and analysis of rare cells (such as circulating tumors cells) from human blood. His research interests include nanoplasmonic, opto-electromechanical and metamaterial devices for ultrasensitive infrared spectroscopy of biomolecules/chemicals as well as high-throughput, cost effective, BioNEMS technologies for life sciences and global health. His expertise is in high-end nanolithography and bio-patterning as well as theory and engineering of quasiparticle devices. He received his Ph.D. degree in theoretical physics from Purdue University, under the supervision of Prof. Supriyo Datta. During his PhD, he studied spin dependent electron transport in low dimensional molecular/nano-electronic devices and introduced one of the most advanced quantum transport models (spin-NEGF) that exist today. Before joining to UCSC, he was a senior research associate at NIH BioMEMS Resources Center at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. He is a recipient of NSF CAREER Award (2019) and Early Career Scialog Fellow of Research Corporation for Science Advancement (2017).
