Prof.dr. Jenneke Klein Nulend (61) is professor of Oral Cell Biology at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Her work in the area of “Cell Biology of Bone Adaptation and Regeneration” is internationally leading. She is globally considered one of the absolute top-experts in the field of Bone Cell Biology. She has built bridges with the results of her research between fundamental and patient-related research of bone regeneration. The knowledge she acquired on bone cell (osteocyte) biology is actively used in the clinical practice of dentistry, orthopaedics, rheumatology, implantology, and oral surgery. The building of a bridge between the different basic- and clinical-scientific disciplines was an important impulse for the founding of the MOVE Research Institute Amsterdam in 2007 at the VU University Amsterdam.
Jenneke Klein Nulend has during her scientific career actively build bridges between the science in the West and the East with the goal to contribute to the scientific capacity development in other countries. Her leading role herein is endorsed by her membership of the Scientific Board of the ‘Research Centre for New Technologies in Life Science Engineering’ at the University of Tehran and her appointment as ‘External Professor’ at San Carlos University, Cebu City, Philippines.
