Robert G. Kouyoumjian, professor emeritus of electrical engineering at The Ohio State University and a world-renowned expert in his field, passed away on January 3, 2011. He was 87.
Prof. Kouyoumjian was born in Cleveland in 1923 and received his undergraduate education at Harvard, MIT and The Ohio State University. After having received his PhD in physics from Ohio State in 1953, he taught electrical engineering at OSU for over 40 years and conducted research at the ElectroScience Laboratory.
World-renowned in his field, Prof. Kouyoumjian was inducted in the National Academy of Engineering in 1995 for his work on the Uniform Geometrical Theory of Diffraction. He also received the Centennial and the Third Millennium Awards from the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
Prof. Kouyoumjian also served in World War II as a captain in the Air Force.
He is survived by a daughter, son, stepson and four grandsons. His wife Beatrice passed away in April 2010.
