Bio
Lihui Guo works with Prof. Rene Lutter (Group Leader), Marianna Bugiani, and also with Jan Willem W. Duitman (also group leader) in the Lung Group at the Dept. of Experimental Immunology, Amsterdam UMC, location AMC, University of Amsterdam.
Research focuses on the role of IDO1/2 in infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis, tuberculous meningitis (TBM), fatal/severe COVID-19, and post-COVID, post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC), also called “long COVID" (collaborative with Brent Appelman).
In addition, I am also really interested in pathology, mainly in Neutrophil Extracellular traps (NETs) and tryptophan metabolic stress.
As of tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis), using cell lines, a murine model, zebrafish model (Eva Habjan and Prof. Wilbert Bitter), and IHC staining lung and Brain (TBM) from TB patients, particularly focus on the role of IDO activity in macrophages to protect M. tuberculosis from being killed by antibiotics (this project is collaborative with Nicole van der Wel), the role of IDO activity in manipulated apoptosis of M. tuberculosis infected macrophages, and using EM to study M. tuberculosis translocation within macrophages.
