What is the competence boundary of Algorithms? An institutional perspective on AI-based video generation

•This article extended the research into advertisement and bridged the media AI technology with commercial usage.•The competence boundary did exist for AI video generation. The term boundary meant two aspects: possibilities and limitations.•The information fluency could play a key role in rich media generation from users’ perception perspective both explicitly and implicitly.
